A teachable moment
font: small med large

I am compelled to write to you regarding an article by Bar Mitzvah teacher Ted Roberts (?Confessions of a Bar Mitzvah teacher,? Feb. 3). My wife and I have great objections to your article. We find it most demeaning to both the parents and the youngsters for the emphasis on the ?size of bribes.? My youngest son was confirmed at Temple B?nai Torah at his pleasure and without a bribe. My youngest daughter regretted that she missed out as a youngster and became a Bat Mitzvah as an adult to affirm her faith, and not for a bribe. My grandson was converted to Judaism as a baby and had a good education and looked forward to his Bar Mitzvah.

We read the JTNews regularly and find its material to be instructive. However, we still feel that the article to which we refer is in bad taste.
