Seeing the light
font: small med large

The article, “Weathering the ‘Hanukkah Storm,’” (Jan. 5) reminded me of a poem I wrote on the occasion of a previous windstorm.

Let There Be Light
I had to be prepared,
When the wild windstorm came.
Without some heat and light,
There’s only myself to blame.
I knew that for my bed,
Extra blankets would nicely do.
And as for fireplaces,
My home had precisely two.
I could use my flashlight
To go from room to room
But light must last a while.
To dispel the dreary gloom.
So I lit some candles
From the Shabbat candle box
Although I knew quite well
Such use is unorthodox.
