Welcome to Congregation Shevet Achim! You will feel at home in the friendly, down-to-earth setting of this warm Mercer Island community. The congregation is led by Seattle’s beloved Rabbi Yechezkel Kornfeld, who creates an attitude that encourages acceptance, learning and growth. CSA uses the Ashkenazic Artscroll siddur and Stone Chumash, and its members come from all walks of life. CSA takes pride in making all Jews feel welcome: Page numbers are called out to help participants follow the service and explanations of the Torah portion and prayers are provided. Every week after Shabbat services, members gather for a sit-down kiddush lunch where they socialize, sing zemirot and hear the rabbi’s d’var Torah.
Shevet Achim is blessed to have many growing families. CSA offers Shabbat programming for the kids, orchestrated by a few hard-working volunteers. The programs teach and entertain the children, while allowing parents to participate in services. Rosh Hashanah, Simchat Torah and Purim offer additional activities for the kids, allowing CSA to reinforce and strengthen what they learn in school. The children’s programs end at the conclusion of services so that everyone can participate in the kiddush together.
Congregation Shevet Achim is a warm and inviting synagogue, where everyone feels comfortable. Hospitality is always available. Please join them soon for an upcoming Shabbat, or plan to visit during the coming holiday. They look forward to meeting you on Mercer Island!
