Who they are
StandWithUs Northwest is an Israel education and advocacy organization. They are a non-partisan, professionally managed, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to promoting greater understanding and support for Israel in the Pacific Northwest. They are passionate in their commitment to a Jewish, democratic and secure Israel living in peace with its neighbors.
StandWithUs Northwest differs from other pro-Israel Jewish organizations in three ways:
• They focus entirely on one cause: Educating about and advocating for Israel.
• They work locally only, on issues that affect us in our communities and schools.
• They rely on energetic and committed volunteers so they can respond often and dig deeply into local issues and problems.
They focus their efforts, energies and passion to:
1. Pull together communities in support of Israel
2. Create enthusiasm for and increase identification with Israel
3. Promote peace through education and understanding
4. Respond to and correct inaccurate stories about Israel and the Mideast in local media
5. Counter other misrepresentations and distortions.

What they do
Speakers – StandWithUs Northwest trains speakers and responds to numerous one-sided, anti-Israel speakers in local high schools, area colleges and universities, and to anti-Israel presentations given at area churches and civic organizations.
Education: High Schools – StandWithUs Northwest speakers talk to high school students so the students and educators hear Israel’s perspective on the Middle East crisis. They maintain databases of and offer speakers, materials, films, etc., to more than 1,300 secondary school social studies and civics teachers from high schools located as far south as Portland and as far north as Bellingham.
Education: Universities and Colleges – StandWithUs Northwest maintains student contacts on most Northwest college campuses, where they also provide StandWithUs fellowships along with significant training, funding, materials and programming.
Education: Churches and Civic Organizations – StandWithUs Northwest engages church leaders who have supported or stood by while others have supported efforts to blame Israel for the crisis in the Mideast. Hearing only one side the story, they believe that Israel is the aggressor in the conflict. StandWithUs Northwest reaches out to civic organizations and churches to create dialogue, leading to a more balanced understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Boycotts, Divestiture and Sanctions – StandWithUs Northwest fights against divestiture efforts, including Seattle Initiative 97 and the 2004 and 2006 Presbyterian and the 2008 Methodist divestiture resolutions. They educate to oppose boycott efforts by local merchants and efforts on campuses to sanction Israel.
Media Relations/Response – StandWithUs Northwest volunteer writers identify and respond to biased and false newspaper stories and editorial page opinions. They work to counter misrepresentations and efforts to vilify Israel.

How you can help
They are effective because they have a committed group of energetic volunteers. They need more volunteers interested in better educating students, educators, religious leaders, and news providers. Each volunteer contributes his or her unique talents or resources in a highly collaborative and educational setting. You make the difference!
