SJFF, which takes place annually in the spring, is a nine-day international cinematic exploration and celebration of Jewish life, culture, identity and history and has grown into the largest and most highly anticipated Jewish cultural and arts event in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Weekly praises SJFF as the best ethnic festival in the region.
Through the magical medium of film, SJFF both entertains, engages and educates moviegoers about complex issues facing Jewish people around the world, while challenging conventional perspectives. SJFF strives to build bridges of mutual understanding between diverse groups by inviting illuminating filmmakers and experts to lead post-film discussion about vital and timely issues.
Also, the American Jewish Committee and SJFF present the annual Shemanski Trust FilmTalks program, a daylong diversity, anti-bigotry workshop free for local-area high school students. By viewing “The World Through a Jewish Lens,” SJFF audiences gain vibrant and profound insight into the universal human experience.
