The mission of the African American–Jewish Coalition is to increase mutual understanding and cooperation between the African American and Jewish communities. At present, the focus of the coalition’s work is the June R. Chaus Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to needy graduate and undergraduate students who have had to overcome challenges related to minority status. Events planned for the coming year include:
• Participation in the neighborhood feeding program (with Madrona Presbyterian Church)
• Holiday cocktail party in December (a low-key and informal fundraiser for scholarship program)
• Appreciation luncheon in the spring at the Rainier Club (recognition of community members who have worked for social justice and their primary fundraising event), and
• Annual meeting in June.
Anyone who supports the coalition’s goals is welcome to participate.
