Camp Solomon Schechter, founded in 1954, is the premier Jewish camping experience in the Pacific Northwest. This Shabbat-observant and kosher camp is independent, rooted in Conservative Judaism. It offers an innovative Jewish experience for youth of all denominations entering 2nd-11th grades. While the largest numbers of campers come from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia, it also serves Jewish communities in California, Nevada, Idaho, Alaska, Alberta and many other locations, including Israel.
The camp is located one hour from Seattle and two hours from Portland, within view of Mt. Rainier. The spectacular 170-acre wooded facility features breathtaking views of a private lake, where campers can swim and paddle boat. Hiking in the untouched beauty of the forest and protected wetlands augment the exciting outdoor program. Facilities include tennis courts, sports fields, fully lit basketball courts, a challenge course, zip tour, an outdoor amphitheatre, and heated cabins. There is also a private campsite along the banks of the Deschutes River.
At Camp Solomon Schechter, the values of integrity, derech eretz (respect) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) are emphasized through sports, omanut (arts) and teva (nature) to create an ideal Jewish community. Camp builds Jewish identity and commitment, raises self-confidence, develops decision-making skills, improves social skills, and enables campers to reach inside themselves and discover talents and abilities they never knew they had.
Camp is available for year-round retreats for Jewish, academic, and other organizations; family reunions; B’nai Mitzvah; weddings; celebrations; and day and group rentals. They provide opportunities for year-round Jewish living and learning, including family camp weekends, women’s retreats, men’s camp, alumni reunions, and other Shabbatons.
Hope to see you at Camp Solomon Schechter next summer!
